Online Only Lab Reports from G.I.A.

The Gemological Institute of America’s notable diamond and gemstone grading lab is now offering online-only lab reports.

The report includes a new detailed face-up image of the diamond and lets the user use a rollover feature to enlarge features of the stone. The lab report will be stored permanently in G.I.A.’s database and you can use their website to access it at any time.

The G.I.A. Diamond eReport costs 10 % less than their standard reports, but it is currently only available for certain diamonds.

To view a G.I.A. Diamond eReport sample, visit www.gia.edu/reportcheck/. Next to "Report Number" enter 2141438194 and next to "Carat Weight" enter 1.01.

They do not plan to have the electric reports completely replace the paper reports, but so far they have had a positive response!

Proposing with a Pet

We recently had a customer tell us he wanted to propose to his girlfriend with help from man’s best friend! He says their dog is just another member of the family and with some ribbon and a small pouch he hopes this will make the proposal more personal! Obviously, having a four-legged friend help out could turn out extremely well and it will make the proposal memorable, but this is going to take some planning! Here are some ideas on proposing with a pet:

1) Get a tuxedo outfit for the pet. She will love seeing him/her dressed up so cute and when she asks you, "why is ___  dressed in a tuxedo" you can tell her, "he/she wanted to look nice for this special occasion." Of course she will ask what the occasion is…

2) You could tie a ribbon onto the collar with a note that says "Will You Marry Me?"

3) Put the engagement ring around the pet’s collar and see how long it takes her to notice. We recommend keeping the pet indoors so that you won’t accidentally lose the ring!

4) Teach your pet bird to say “Will You Marry Me?”

5) If you don’t have a pet you can always go visit the local animal shelter and after you’ve picked your perfect pet have her attach the new leash which also has the engagement ring tied on it.

Amethyst: February's Birthstone

Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for February babies. Amethyst is associated with stability, peace,
balance, courage, inner strength, sincerity and a calm disposition. The normally purple colored stone is also referred to as the "sobriety stone" as the word Amethyst is derived from the Greek word "amethystos" which means "remedy against drunkenness".

Amethyst is found in the following countries: Brazil, Uruguay and Zambia and is a popular stone to be used in fashion jewelry.

Keep the Romance Going

So now Valentine's Day is over. Now what? Couples can greatly benefit from just setting aside a little time each week to do something romantic together, and it doesn’t have to be an expensive dinner and a movie either. Here are some ideas to keep the romance going year round without having to spend a lot of money!

Cook a meal at home: Shop together, cook together and don’t forget to set the table. This will encourage a romantic evening in and give you plenty of time to catch up.

Go for a walk: After a long day at work, it’s easy to grab a quick meal and spend the rest of the evening in front of the t.v. Instead of watching hours of t.v. or surfing the internet, go for a walk together. The fresh air and quality time together will do you both some good.

Make every occasion “special”: It’s easy to make holidays special. Birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentine’s Day are great occasions to do something nice for your other half, but what about all the other days of the year? Try having a “special occasion” once a month instead.  

Do stuff together: I’m sure you both have hobbies that you would like the other person to participate in. Try taking a class together or learning something completely new together. If money is tight, try a free outdoor concert or have a picnic at the park. It’s all about spending time together!   

A little surprise: Leave a hidden note for them to find or maybe a sweet text message in the middle of the workday. A sweet surprise can go a long way...
